Hotel extension

The main room of a hotel located along the road which links the town of Palenque with the archaeological Mayan site demanded to increase its capacity by adding a roof structure, generating an outdoor room yet protected from direct sun and rain.

The adopted solution consists on a structural sequence of 7 bamboo trusses in parallel, adapting their height to meet the slope where they are resting, and covering a surface of 20 meters by 6 meters, some 1,300 square feet (120 square meters). This intervention, which prolonged the structural order of the existing building, frames the amazing views of the valley where is sited through the bamboo structure. In addition to extending the room for diner of the existing building, the new structure covers also the outdoor corridor to the swimming pool, located at a lower level.
