It is the first vertical tensegrity structure using structural bamboo built in Spain, and the second tallest tensegrity structure ever built in this country. The challenge resided not only on its size, 8 x 3 x 3 meters, but also in making it safe for the acrobats to work on it. Moreover, it has been carefully planned in order to minimize the time taken to build it up with the aim of keeping the port tidy and noiseless.
After 3 days working on site, the ‘Lighthouse’ was up and ready to be used by the artists of the company. The bamboo species used in all the devices has been Guadua angustifolia. It has been designed and built by Spanish architect and urban planner Jaime Espinosa, in collaboration with Circ Bover, a circus company.
