The 1st Ibero-Bamboo Symposium held at the Institute Eduardo Torroja in Madrid, Spain on 2 October 2.019 was followed by the 1st Bio-construction with Bamboo Workshop at the Polytechnic University (UPM). It was a 3-day workshop, combining theory and practice, with the participation of a number of professional and experts. The practical part of the workshop was coordinated by Jaime Espinosa, starting with the design and planning.

The concept lays on self-supporting modular frames which may be combined together if lined up. Thus, depending on the final number of participants and due to limited time for the practical part of the workshop, the final size of the construction could be adjusted rather easily. The Experimental Agronomical Fields at the UPM was the setting for the practical part whereas the School of Architecture ETSA Madrid hosted the theoretical part. The output was a 14 m2 greenhouse with bamboo structure and polycarbonate roofing.
